Search Set to Resume for Missing Boater on Lake Wylie

The York County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team is scheduled to resume recovery operations this morning for a missing person who disappeared in Lake Wylie on Monday evening.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies initially rushed to the scene at approximately 9:00 PM on Monday after reports that an individual had jumped from a boat and failed to resurface. First responders established a primary staging area at the Ebenezer Park Boat Landing to coordinate the active search.

The initial water rescue operation involved several local emergency services, including:

  • The York County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team

  • The Newport Fire Department

  • Additional local assisting emergency agencies

The coordinated search concentrated on the waters near Tega Cay, in close proximity to the Catawba Dam. However, due to increasingly dangerous nighttime diving conditions, officials were forced to temporarily suspend the underwater operation at approximately 10:30pm Monday night.

The York County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the area remains secured and that dive teams will re-enter the water early Tuesday morning to continue their efforts to locate the missing boater. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the individual involved. Further official updates are expected as the search progresses throughout the day.
