Nighbor Wins Twice and Graham Dominates Throws at SCHSL 5A Div. 1 State Championships

COLUMBIA — The South Carolina High School League 5A Division I state track and field championships were held Thursday night at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, with Blythewood and Wando capturing the girls and boys team titles, respectively. Among the area schools, Clover’s distance runners and Rock Hill’s throwing specialists turned in some of the meet’s most memorable performances.

Clover
Clover senior Ella Nighbor delivered the most dominant individual performance of any York or Lancaster County athlete at the meet, sweeping the girls distance events. Nighbor won the 1600 meters in 4:56.28 and followed that with a victory in the 3200 meters in 10:43.17, becoming a double state champion on the same night. Teammate Ava Jagielski added a runner up finish in the 1600 in 5:04.50 and placed 11th in the 800 meter run in 2:24.20.
