Two Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be honored next week by the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association with the organization’s Medal of Valor Award, recognizing their bravery during an incident last year.
Deputy W.H. Brown and Corporal T. Floyd will be presented with the award for their actions on March 9, 2025. They are among ten deputies from four county sheriffs’ offices across the state who will be recognized during a dinner ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Palmetto Club in Columbia.
The Medal of Valor Award is intended to bring special recognition to sheriffs’ deputies who have displayed tremendous bravery or courage at some point in the previous calendar year. It is considered one of the highest honors bestowed by the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association.
Berkeley County Sheriff Duane S. Lewis, who serves as the Medal of Valor Committee Chairman for the Association, said the deputies being honored acted with selfless dedication to protect and serve others, often placing themselves in harm’s way without hesitation. He said the Association is proud to recognize their heroism and grateful for their unwavering commitment to the people of South Carolina.
Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller, who currently serves as the Association’s President, said it is the Association’s distinct honor to recognize the brave efforts and heroic service of the men and women being honored. He said deputies across South Carolina put on the badge each day knowing they may be called upon to run toward danger while others run away, and that the honorees represent the very best of the profession and the selfless spirit of service and sacrifice that defines law enforcement in the state.
