South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced a major breakthrough in a long-term investigation into gang violence with the return of a two-count indictment against Kylynn Jackson and Rajai Jones. The State Grand Jury has charged both individuals with murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with the 2022 death of Darius Minter.
The indictments allege that on the night of July 5, 2022, Jackson and Jones conspired to kill Minter as the culmination of a series of retaliatory shootings between rival gangs. Minter was reportedly gunned down on his own porch in Chester County. Under South Carolina law, the murder charge carries a sentence of 30 years to life, while the conspiracy charge includes up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
On March 20, 2026, Judge Heath Taylor denied bond for both defendants during a hearing in Richland County. Jones was transported to the proceedings from the South Carolina Department of Corrections, where he is currently serving a sentence for a separate voluntary manslaughter conviction. Jackson is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
The case resulted from an intensive partnership between the Attorney General’s State Grand Jury Section, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office. Officials characterized the indictments as a pivotal step in dismantling cycles of local gang violence and holding violent offenders accountable through interagency resources.
