Rustin Terry Announces Candidacy for South Carolina House of Representatives District 48

“My name is Rustin Terry. I am running for the South Carolina House of Representatives District 48 because our politics should reflect the compassion and service that define our communities here in York County. Too many families are struggling to afford prescriptions or health insurance after Republicans gutted ACA subsidies. No one should have to choose between a doctor’s visit and putting food on the table. When life knocks you down, you shouldn’t be alone or punished for getting sick. In Columbia, I’ll fight for a government that leads with heart and writes laws with compassion.
I am the proud father of three kids who have spent their years in Clover public schools, one of whom is hoping to attend Clemson next year. My wife is a graduate from the University of South Carolina and a public school teacher at Larne Elementary. And I work in tech at a company that assists people who need help improving their credit scores. I owe tremendous gratitude to our educators in South Carolina who consistently go above and beyond. I owe tremendous gratitude to our South Carolina health care workers. And for me personally for our health care workers at the Medical University of South Carolina. I look forward to going to Columbia to support our South Carolina education system and our healthcare system for all South Carolinians.
500,000 of our fellow South Carolinians got letters last January saying our insurance coverage is ending, or that next year’s plan will cost far more, for some more than their rent or mortgage because Republicans have refused to extend Obamacare subsidies. There is $2 billion just sitting in Washington DC (from Obamacare Medicaid extensions) with South Carolina’s name on it that would help pay our medical bills, but Republicans in South Carolina refuse to swallow their pride and accept it. I am running for office to go to Columbia to bring that same hope that was delivered to that father when he got a new kidney. I am running to help South Carolinians with medical bills and medical debt. I am ready for a fight and to gain a few scars. “
