A Senior Sweetheart and a Spunky Youth: Meet the HSYC Pets of the Week!

Happy Monday, York County! As the flowers begin to bloom, the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is bustling with activity. While we celebrate new beginnings, we also have a very important PSA: Kitten Season has officially arrived.

If you have neighborhood cats in need of fixing, HSYC is here to help through their subsidized program. Don’t wait for the litters to multiply—call 803-547-PAWS today!

Cat of the Week: The Distinguished Tom Collins

If you’re looking for a companion who offers sophisticated charm and a steady presence, look no further than Tom Collins.

This handsome 8-year-old senior found himself at the rescue through no fault of his own. While he was initially a bit overwhelmed, five weeks of love and patience have allowed him to truly relax. Tom recently overcame a mouth ulcer and is feeling better than ever, showing off his playful side and a surprising love for belly rubs!

  • Age: 8+ Years (Senior)

  • Vibe: Professional bird-watcher and expert listener.

  • Status: Neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Pro-Tip: Transition time is imperative for seniors! Whether it takes days or months, giving a cat like Tom Collins space to blossom is incredibly rewarding.

Dog of the Week: The Irresistible Tobias

On the other end of the energy spectrum is Tobias, a 9-month-old “cutie patootie” who is currently the talk of the shelter. Pulled from Animal Control just a week ago, Tobias has wasted no time stealing hearts.

He is a social butterfly who excels on leashes, enjoys car rides, and gets along great with other dogs. If you need a co-pilot for your weekend adventures, Tobias is your guy.

  • Age: 9 Months (The “Cool Kid” phase)

  • Talents: Winning over every person he meets and being a “great catch.”

  • Status: Fully vetted and ready for his “FURever” family.

How You Can Help the “FURmission”

The HSYC is a community-driven rescue, and there are countless ways to support their life-saving work this week:

1. Support Lady Danbury

The brave Lady Danbury has completed her surgery and is currently rehabilitating in foster care. However, her journey isn’t over. Every donation helps cover her medical costs. Check the HSYC Facebook page for the latest updates.

2. Supply the Shelter

The rescue is currently in need of the following essentials:

  • Cleaning Supplies: Bleach and Laundry Detergent.

  • Cat Needs: Pine Cat Litter.

  • Treats: Both soft and hard dog treats are highly appreciated!

3. Consider Fostering

With Kitten Season in full swing, the shelter is reaching capacity. Fostering is a beautiful way to teach children about kindness and responsibility while saving lives. Apply to foster here.

4. Shop for a Cause

Did you know your “spring cleaning” can save lives? Donate your gently used items (including holiday decor!) to the PAWSibilities Thrift Shop & Boutique. You can also shop their eBay page 24/7!

By the Numbers: 2026 Success

So far this year, the HSYC has already placed 46 dogs and 118 cats into loving homes. That is 164 lives changed thanks to supporters like you!
