Channing Tatum to Star in True Crime Film “Roofman” Set to Be Filmed in Charlotte; Extras Needed

Charlotte, NC — Hollywood heartthrob Channing Tatum is set to star in a new true crime film, “Roofman,” which will be filmed right here in Charlotte from October through December 2024. The production is looking for local residents to participate as extras, offering a unique opportunity to be part of the movie-making magic.

The film, directed by Derek Cianfrance, known for his work on the HBO series “I Know This Much Is True,” is based on the gripping true story of Jeffrey Manchester, infamously dubbed the “Rooftop Robber” or “Roofman.” Manchester made headlines in the 1990s for his audacious crime spree, which involved breaking into over 60 McDonald’s locations by entering through their roofs. After his capture and imprisonment in 2000, Manchester managed to escape and hide in plain sight, living for months inside a Toys R Us and Circuit City in Charlotte, surviving off baby food. His daring evasion of the police came to an end when he was eventually recaptured and sent back to prison.

The casting call for “Roofman” is being handled by The Cast Station, and producers are specifically seeking females ages 6-20 and 25-65, as well as males ages 25-65. They are particularly interested in individuals who can portray attorneys, pastors, current and former  police officers, security guards, delivery drivers, and church members.

Those interested in becoming a background actor for the film must submit a video through the Limelite app, which is available for free download. Detailed instructions for auditions can be found by following the provided link on The Cast Station’s website.

The filming of “Roofman” marks another exciting moment for Charlotte, as the city continues to attract major film and television productions. Local businesses and residents can look forward to the bustling activity and potential economic boost that comes with hosting a high-profile film project.
