The Appalucians to Bring ‘Music from the Mountains’ to Lancaster Cultural Arts Center

LANCASTER, SC — The sounds of Western North Carolina are coming to the heart of the Palmetto State this weekend. On Saturday, February 21, the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center (CAC) will host The Appalucians, a folk and Americana quartet known for their soulful “Music from the Mountains.”

The concert begins at 6:30 PM at the historic venue located at 307 West Gay St.

A Musical Union Born in the Blue Ridge

The Appalucians are more than just a band; they are a unique musical partnership between two couples: Aditi Sethi and Jay Brown and Angie Heimann and Cas Sochacki. The group first formed after meeting at their children’s preschool, where they discovered a “cosmic musical alignment” that has since led them to stages across the Southeast, including appearances at Merlefest and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion.

The quartet’s sound is defined by:

  • Layered Instrumentation: A rich interplay between dobro, guitars, harmonica, and banjo.

  • Sublime Harmonies: Vocal arrangements that reflect the deep personal and musical bonds within the group.

  • Authentic Songwriting: Repertoire penned primarily by Heimann, an Ohio native, and Brown, who hails from Alabama. Their songs explore the “peaks and valleys” of the human experience, ranging from lighthearted tales of parenthood to deeper reflections on life and the “great beyond.”

Familiar Faces at the CAC

For regular patrons of the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center, Jay Brown will be a familiar name. Brown has performed at the venue previously with his solo “one-man band” act and with the popular rhythm-and-roots ensemble Lazybirds. Fans of those performances can expect the same high-energy, “rollicking good time” that has made Brown a local favorite.

The band members also bring unique perspectives from their lives outside of music. Sethi is an end-of-life care physician and music therapist, while Sochacki and Heimann are known for their expertise in living off the land—elements that often color the themes of their music.
