Italian Cosmetics Manufacturer Huwell Selects Cherokee County, South Carolina for First U.S. Operation

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Huwell US Inc., a manufacturer of cosmetics and hair care products, has announced it will establish its first United States operation in Cherokee County. The project represents an $11.6 million investment that is expected to create 25 new jobs in the region.

Headquartered in Italy, Huwell has been a key player in the hair care industry for more than 60 years. The company specializes in private-label manufacturing of lighteners and is recognized as one of the world’s leading providers of bleaching powders. They also distribute raw materials used in cosmetic formulations.

A Strategic Move to Gaffney

The new operation will be located at 14 Commerce Drive in Gaffney, where the company will renovate an existing 120,000-square-foot facility.

According to company officials, the new plant will allow Huwell to produce lighteners for a diverse client base, ranging from large, established brands to smaller independent cosmetic companies. The expansion is designed to provide the Italian manufacturer with greater access to the U.S. market, improving logistics and response times for North American clients.

“South Carolina represents the kind of place where Huwell truly belongs — a region built on practical thinking, reliable execution and people who take pride in what they build every day,” said Huwell President Gabriele Magni. “Opening this facility allows us to serve our customers more efficiently, respond faster to market needs and build even closer partnerships across the United States.”

Economic Impact and Timeline

Operations at the new facility are expected to come online in June 2026.

To support the project, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits. Additionally, the council awarded a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to Cherokee County to assist with necessary building improvements.

State and local leaders welcomed the investment as a win for the state’s rural economic development and advanced manufacturing sector.

“Huwell’s decision to establish operations in Cherokee County demonstrates how South Carolina’s business-friendly environment and skilled workforce attract companies from around the globe,” said Governor Henry McMaster.

Gaffney Mayor Lyman Dawkins III emphasized the local impact for residents. “This investment not only strengthens our local economy, but more importantly, it creates 25 quality jobs,” Dawkins said. “Opportunities like these can make a real difference for working families in our community.”
