Winthrop Volleyball Players Earn Big South Weekly Honors

Winthrop University volleyball players Lexi Thatcher and Addison Torain have earned additional Big South Conference weekly honors following the Eagles’ 2-0 week.

Thatcher was named Setter of the Week for the fifth time this season, while Torain earned her fourth Libero of the Week award, the conference announced Monday.

Thatcher recorded a league-high 84 assists, averaging 12 per set, along with 18 digs and seven kills. She contributed 37 assists and seven digs in Friday’s sweep of Presbyterian before posting 47 assists, 11 digs and six kills in Saturday’s four-set victory over Charleston Southern.

Her five Setter of the Week awards this season place her among the conference’s most decorated players since the award began in 2024. Only Kamyla Vega David and former Winthrop teammate Isabella Murray have earned more in a single season.

Torain totaled 40 digs, averaging 5.71 per set, along with five service aces and 12 assists during the two victories. She recorded 16 digs against Presbyterian before adding 24 digs, three aces and seven assists against Charleston Southern.

Torain’s four Libero of the Week awards are the most by any Winthrop player since the honor began in 2008. Her weekly average of 5.71 digs per set and 0.71 aces per set led the Big South, while her 24 digs Saturday were the most in a four-set conference match during the week.

Winthrop hit .307 as a team across the two matches, the best mark in the Big South for the week.
