Baden Scores In 5th Straight Game, Eagles Fall At Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte scored two second half goals as Winthrop men’s soccer fell 2-1 on the road, Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Game Recap

• Eagles had a good chance in the 19^th minute as Juma Baden chased down a long ball by Owen Deer near the edge of the box and tried to slip a shot past the keeper who was closing in
• Tom Carmeli was able to get his body in the way for the save as the rebound came back to Baden but his left footed effort was wide of the post
• In the 37^th minute the Eagles created another scoring chance as Shota Kawagoe created space just outside the box and fired a low shot that just clipped Baden who was making a run through and rolled wide of the post
• Eagles continued to press and it paid off in the 39^th minute as Deer curled a long ball behind the 49ers defense as Baden ran on and finished 1v1 with the keeper
• The 49ers had a good chance in the 68^th minute as Michael Raggett picked up a free ball in the middle of the field, took a couple of touches and fired a shot on frame that was turned away with a diving save by Yannis Kugel
• Charlotte drew level in the 76^th minute when Natsuki Ogata scored off a header pass from Raggett
• The 49ers grabbed the lead in the 79^th minute as Ogata’s free kick was on frame and saved by Kugel but the rebound came back in front of goal as Raggett slid and pushed the ball across the goal line

Notables

• Baden has now scored a goal in five straight games, the first Eagle to do so since Max Hasenstab did so in 2013
• Kugel and Evan Tubiolo made their first collegiate starts in the match
