Winthrop Women’s Soccer Falls to Mercer at Home

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop women’s soccer fell to Mercer 4-0 on Thursday night at Eagle Field. Despite the loss, goalie Mia Ruffalo recorded a career-high eight saves for the Eagles.

Game Recap

• Mia Ruffalo made an early save on Marianna Rapani at 7:55 as Mercer generated several chances through 19:54 without scoring.
• Mercer moved ahead 1-0 at 21:16 on Anna Bachman’s goal, and Ruffalo followed with saves on Ashley Gilbert and Bachman to keep the margin there.
• Monssi Avila-Gutierrez recorded the Eagles’ shot in the 29th minute, while Mercer continued to press late with five shots and a corner from 33:11 to 42:39.
• Mercer carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
• In the second half, Ruffalo saved a Mercer shot at 45:56, and Cordelia McIntosh had an Eagles attempt at 50:10 before Olivia Bori scored at 53:19 to put Mercer ahead 2-0.
• Bori added another goal at 55:18 off an Emily Rutkowski assist, and Elizabeth Michaelson scored at 63:03 to make it 4-0.
