U.S. Representative Ralph Norman officially endorsed Attorney General Alan Wilson on Monday morning in the upcoming South Carolina Republican gubernatorial runoff election.
The announcement, which took place during an 11 a.m. press conference in Rock Hill, marks a significant moment in the narrowing primary race. The endorsement follows a highly competitive initial vote that resulted in Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette and Wilson advancing to a head-to-head runoff to secure the Republican gubernatorial nomination.
Norman’s backing of the state’s top prosecutor is expected to influence conservative voters in the region as the runoff campaign enters its final stretch. Both Evette and Wilson have been vying for the support of high-profile party leaders to consolidate the Republican base.
Meanwhile, the Democratic field has already been settled. State Representative Jermaine Johnson successfully secured his party’s nomination earlier in the cycle.
With the Republican runoff fast approaching, the winner between Wilson and Evette will move on to face Johnson in the statewide gubernatorial race.
