Athletes from South Pointe, York and Lancaster collected a combined 39 top three finishes Friday at the SCHSL 4A District 2 track and field meet, hosted by York Comprehensive High School Stadium in York.
The top three finishers in each event qualified automatically for next Saturday’s SCHSL 4A state championship at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia. The next seven fastest times in each running event across the three state district meets will also receive state invitations. Those additional qualifiers will be announced in the coming days.
South Pointe’s Isley Sweeps the Sprints, Brown Doubles in Distance
South Pointe junior Devin Isley swept the boys short sprints, winning the 100 meter dash in 10.41 and the 200 meter dash in 21.42. Both marks were the fastest of the day by comfortable margins.
Senior Keller Brown turned in a distance double, winning the boys 1600 meter run in 4:18.75 and the boys 3200 meter run in 9:25.70. Teammate Reece Adams took second in the 1600 in 4:29.89, and Copeland Crawford was third in the 3200 in 9:54.95, giving the Stallions five state berths between the two long distance events.
The South Pointe boys 4×800 meter relay added another individual title, winning in 8:17.42 by 20 seconds over the next team. The boys 4×400 meter relay finished second in 3:30.53.
In the boys 800 meter run, Jett Shelton was second in 2:03.44 and Jayden Finney third in 2:03.49, with Lancaster’s Quentin Watts taking the title.
In the field, Jalen Davis took second in the boys long jump at 6.69 meters, and Jayden White shared first in the boys high jump after he and two other athletes cleared 1.9 meters.
York Throwers Sweep the Top of the Discus, Shook Wins the 800
The York boys claimed the top two spots in the boys discus at their home meet. Senior Levi Ward won at 48.30 meters, with junior Isaiah Rose right behind at 47.20 meters. Rose added a third place finish in the boys javelin at 40.53 meters, and Ward took second in the boys shot put at 15.96 meters.
York senior Oliver Watson tied for first in the boys high jump at 1.9 meters. Junior Ellis Spencer collected two distance qualifiers, finishing second in the boys 3200 meter run in 9:39.78 and third in the boys 1600 in 4:33.97.
The York girls had the standout distance performance of the day. Senior Ava Shook won the girls 800 meter run in 2:19.30, with teammate Chastity Shields taking third in 2:34.90. Shook then anchored the York girls 4×800 meter relay to a winning time of 10:20.87.
Sophomore Arianna Idehenre won the girls 400 meter hurdles in 1:10.72 in one of the closest finishes of the day, edging Lancaster’s Amari Stevens by four hundredths of a second.
York’s girls also collected qualifiers in four field events. MacKayla Thomasson took second in the girls long jump at 5.33 meters. Ellie Dismukes was second in the girls pole vault at 2.75 meters. Zoey Hudgens finished second in the girls discus at 28.12 meters and added a third in the girls javelin at 24.74 meters, where teammate Madison White was second at 27.84 meters. Anna Sizemore took second in the girls shot put at 11.06 meters.
Lancaster Adds Six State Berths
Lancaster senior Quentin Watts captured the boys 800 meter run in 2:01.33, holding off a pair of South Pointe runners by a step. Sophomore Ayden Alexander added the second Lancaster individual title, winning the boys javelin with a throw of 43.21 meters. The Lancaster boys 4×800 meter relay finished second in 8:37.33.
Senior Demyius Blair took third in the boys discus at 40.56 meters. Stevens nearly took the girls 400 meter hurdles before settling for second in 1:10.76, and junior Mikka Hall placed third in the girls shot put at 10.74 meters.
South Pointe Distance and Throws on the Girls Side
South Pointe junior Elizabeth Faircloth took the girls distance double, winning the girls 3200 meter run in 11:14.48 and adding a third place finish in the girls 1600 in 5:20.92. Da’Nasha Erby took the girls javelin at 35.18 meters, more than seven meters ahead of the next throw. The South Pointe girls 4×100 meter relay finished second in 48.76, the 4×400 added a third place time of 4:26.31, and the 4×800 took third in 10:35.02.

The SCHSL 4A state championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 16 at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia.
