Mia Williams Leads Fort Mill at Coach Classic Elite Track Classic

Fort Mill’s Mia Williams wins 100 meters, adds triple jump title at SCTCCCA Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic

The South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association held its annual Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic Elite Meet on Thursday, April 17, at Whale Branch Early College High School in Seabrook, bringing together the top high school track and field athletes from across the state in every division for one of the most competitive one-day meets on the South Carolina prep calendar.

Athletes earned their spots at the Classic by qualifying at one of six regional meets held on March 21, meaning every competitor on the track and in the field represented the best their region had to offer.

From the York and Lancaster County area, Fort Mill and York each placed athletes on the final results sheet, with Fort Mill senior Mia Williams turning in the day’s most eye-catching individual performance.

Mia Williams Shines for Fort Mill

Williams, a senior sprinter and jumper, delivered a dominant showing across multiple events. She won the girls 100 meter dash with a time of 11.91 seconds, edging Fort Dorchester’s Kendell McFadden by two hundredths of a second in one of the meet’s tightest sprint finishes. She then added a triple jump title with a mark of 12.12 meters, claiming gold in the field as well as on the track.

Williams also placed fifth in the girls long jump with a mark of 5.49 meters, making her one of the most versatile performers of the entire meet regardless of school or division.

Fort Mill’s Marlee Cook placed ninth in the girls 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.86, contributing additional points to the school’s overall showing.

In relays, Fort Mill placed fourth in the boys 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:23.49 and 13th in the girls 4×400 with a mark of 4:15.31. The school also placed 11th in the girls 4×100 relay at 49.87 seconds.

In the boys 400 meter dash, sophomore Wyatt Gremillion placed eighth with a time of 49.77 seconds. Sixth grader Jahzir Mccants placed sixth in the boys 200 meter dash at 21.74 seconds.

Fort Mill’s Kaelynn Fleming finished seventh in the girls 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.69.
