Two Teens Charged in Fatal Fort Mill Park Shooting

FORT MILL, S.C. — Fort Mill police have arrested two teenage males—including one just 13 years old— in connection with a homicide that occurred more than a week earlier.

The Incident
On the night of Thursday, August 28, 2025, officers were dispatched to Steele Street Park around 10:30 p.m., responding to reports of gunfire. Once on the scene, they discovered 21‑year‑old Johnny Wayne Martin Cook, a Chester resident, suffering from a gunshot wound. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities indicated there was no known threat to the community at the time.

Arrests and Charges
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, law enforcement announced the arrest of:

  • Jalen Daquavious Thames, 18, of Rock Hill

  • A 13‑year‑old male (name withheld due to age)

Both teens face multiple felony charges, including:

  • Murder

  • Criminal conspiracy

  • Armed robbery

  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime

  • Possession of a stolen firearm
