Tega Cay MGA Hosts March Madness Golf Tournament

Barnes, Moore, Cruz, and Jaitly Lead the Field with Net -13 Victory

Tega Cay, S.C. — The Tega Cay Men’s Golf Association (MGA) held its annual March Madness tournament on Saturday, March 22, featuring a team-based format that brought out strong performances and competitive spirit among participants.

The team of Brandon Barnes, Todd Moore, Mark Cruz, and Suneel Jaitly secured first place with a net score of -13. Teams were determined by a blind draw, creating a level playing field and encouraging camaraderie among players of all skill levels.

Coming in second with a net score of -10 was the team of Todd Layton, Chris Lounsbury, Mark Kershaw, and Joe Bailey. Two teams tied for third at net -8: Randall Phillips, Scott Frattaroli, Bryan Goulet, and Ron Birmingham; and the team of Bill Hall, Greg Kniska, Jim Mowery, and Jim Rafferty.

Tournament Format:
The competition utilized a multiple net score format, with each player using 100% of their course handicap. The scoring breakdown included:

  • Par 5s: Best 2 net scores counted (holes 1, 3, 16, 17)

  • Par 4s: Best 3 net scores counted (holes 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 18)

  • Par 3s: All 4 net scores counted (holes 4, 6, 12, 15)
    Each player’s maximum score was capped at net triple bogey.

Team Skins Results:
Skins were awarded on holes where only one team posted the lowest net score using all four players:

  • Hole 1: Phillips, Frattaroli, Goulet, Birmingham (Net 18)

  • Hole 3: Barnes, Moore, Cruz, Jaitly (Net 16)

  • Hole 5: Chris Hart, John Daly, Larry Harley, Brad Johnson (Net 11)

  • Hole 8: Chris Radu, Rich Reggero, Jack Murray, Larry Grable (Net 14)

  • Hole 10: Matt Bowman, Phil Potts, Kenny Cabiness, Brian Hyer (Net 11)

  • Hole 13: Kevin Eberle, Tim Wyatt, Doug Lawrence, Bryan Voss (Net 13)

  • Hole 14: Gary Anderson, Bob Gay, Eric Thompson, Sam Rudman (Net 15)

  • Hole 16: Jeff Bridges, Bob Auman, Todd Baker, Joe Marscik (Net 16)

  • Hole 17: Chuck Kelker, Dave Morgan, Dave Frascona, Ryan Andrews (Net 17)

  • Hole 18: Bridges, Auman, Baker, Marscik (Net 14)

Tega Cay Cup Standings Update:
Following the March Madness event, Mark Kershaw now leads the season-long Tega Cay Cup standings with 255 points. Brandon Barnes is in second with 235 points, and Todd Moore is close behind with 225 points. The standings are based on participation and placement across various MGA events throughout the year.

The next event on the MGA calendar is the Spring Member-Member Tournament, scheduled for April 26–27.
