The company, known for its record-breaking Carolina Reaper and the recently crowned Pepper X, celebrated its grand opening today, March 21, 2025, at 10 AM, at 1376 Broadcloth St., suite 102.
This move marks a significant expansion for PuckerButt, which first ignited the Fort Mill scene in April 2009 at 237 Main Street. Owner Ed Currie, a two-time Guinness World Record holder, explained the decision, stating, “When I saw the new space in Kingsley, it was a sign from God and knew it was the right time to move.”
The new storefront offers significantly more shelf space, allowing PuckerButt to showcase its extensive range of hot sauces, peppers, and other spicy products. Its prime location near the Marriott Courtyard in the heart of Kingsley promises increased foot traffic, bringing the company’s fiery delights to a broader audience.
Currie’s impact on Fort Mill extends beyond his spicy creations. He was previously recognized by former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley for his role in revitalizing downtown Fort Mill with his original store.
I had the privilege of arriving 30 minutes before the grand opening, allowing me to interview “Smoking Ed” Currie and capture the excitement of the new space. Currie graciously invited me to stay for the grand opening, providing a firsthand look at the community’s enthusiastic reception.
PuckerButt Pepper Company is not just a retailer; it’s also the largest organic pepper farm in the United States, located right here in Fort Mill. Currie’s dedication to pepper breeding is legendary. He meticulously crossbreeds his plants, using a paintbrush to transfer pollen between varieties. This innovative process led to the creation of the Carolina Reaper, a hybrid of a Naga pepper from India and Bangladesh and the La Soufriere pepper from Saint Vincent.
