Columbia, S.C. – Governor Henry McMaster is set to deliver his annual State of the State address on Wednesday night at the South Carolina State House, outlining key legislative priorities for the upcoming year.
Among the likely topics for the new fiscal year are proposals to reduce the state income tax rate to 6% and increase the minimum salary for state teachers to $50,000. In last year’s address, McMaster highlighted South Carolina’s strong economy, budget surplus, and rapid population growth, while also expressing opposition to labor unions.
This year’s address carries special significance, as Wednesday marks McMaster’s official status as the longest-serving governor in South Carolina history. His tenure extends beyond two full terms due to the additional time he served after former Governor Nikki Haley resigned in 2017 to become U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations under then-President Donald Trump.
The speech will be McMaster’s eighth since taking office, and he is expected to reaffirm his administration’s focus on economic growth, education, and tax reform.
