Lancaster, SC – A series of gang-related shootings in Lancaster County has led to the arrest of 16 individuals, according to the Queen City News. The violence began after the September 4th murder of Jelani Jackson, who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Clinton Avenue.
Investigators believe Jackson’s death was gang-related, triggering a series of retaliatory shootings between rival gangs across various locations in the county, including Palmetto Place Apartments, Shelton Street, Foster Heights Drive, and Converse Street. These incidents caused damage to vehicles, homes, and outbuildings, and one suspect was injured with a gunshot wound to the hand.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI offered a reward for information leading to the arrests of those responsible for the violence.
A coordinated operation involving over 100 officers from local, state, and federal agencies took place on December 19th, resulting in the arrest of 13 suspects, including 12 males and one female. They are believed to have been part of the conspiracy behind the shootings. Additionally, a juvenile and an adult female with an outstanding bench warrant were also apprehended.
The adult suspects face multiple charges, such as criminal conspiracy, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a stolen pistol, and drug trafficking. Most adults have been released on bond, except for two individuals with higher bond amounts or denied bond.
Sheriff Barry Faile commended the efforts of investigators in linking the individuals to the shootings and organizing the multi-agency operation. He reiterated that those involved in gun violence will be relentlessly pursued and held accountable.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities anticipate additional charges and arrests.
