Fort Mill, SC – In a bid to ease parking congestion in the bustling downtown area, the Town of Fort Mill has announced its acquisition of the property located at the intersection of Tom Hall and Springs streets on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024.
The newly acquired property, formerly occupied by the now-defunct Hardee’s restaurant, marks the culmination of a multi-year quest to expand parking options for the town’s thriving business district. Utilizing town impact fees, the purchase aims to address the increasing parking demands spurred by the area’s continuous growth.
To mitigate the parking woes exacerbated by the Duke Energy project near the Main Street corridor, free parking has been made available at the acquired property effective immediately.
Under the town’s plans, the vacant building will be demolished, and necessary areas will be paved while the property undergoes landscaping enhancements. However, these renovations are slated to commence following the completion of the Duke Power project. Once finalized, the property is poised to offer over 70 additional free parking spaces for public use.
As the town gears up to implement these changes, officials have issued a reminder for downtown parkers to exercise caution and observe all traffic and pedestrian safety regulations.
