LANCASTER, S.C. — The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has identified the bicyclist who died following a collision with a vehicle on Friday evening.
Authorities confirmed that Jeffery Jewett, 36, of Lancaster, was the victim of the fatal crash that occurred on January 16, 2026.
According to the Lancaster Police Department, the incident took place around 7 p.m. on East Arch Street. Investigators report that Jewett was riding his bicycle westbound after dark when he was struck by a vehicle.
Emergency responders transported Jewett to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health Lancaster Medical Center for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The Lancaster Police Department and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. As of the latest updates, police have not released the name of the driver involved, stating that identification will be provided once the investigation concludes.
