Local Students Recognized for Academic Excellence at Valdosta State University

VALDOSTA, GA — Two local students have earned high academic honors at Valdosta State University (VSU) for the Fall 2025 semester.

Skyler Elliott of Lancaster and Rhyia Mitchell of Fort Mill were named to the university’s prestigious Dean’s List, joining a group of high-achieving scholars recognized for their dedication to academic success.

Elliott and Mitchell are among more than 2,300 students honored by the university this semester. The Dean’s List is an esteemed tradition at VSU, reserved for undergraduate students who demonstrate consistent academic performance.

Academic Standards

To qualify for the Dean’s List at Valdosta State University, students must meet specific and rigorous grade point average (GPA) requirements. The criteria for the Fall 2025 semester included:

  • Semester GPA: Achieving a 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours.

  • Institutional GPA: Maintaining an overall institutional GPA of 3.00 or higher.

The university notes that developmental studies, transient, and graduate students are not eligible for this specific honor, making the achievement exclusive to qualifying undergraduate students.
