Governor McMaster to Launch SC Center for Cybersecurity

Governor Henry McMaster is scheduled to announce the official launch of the South Carolina Center for Cybersecurity on Wednesday. The new center is set to be housed at the South Carolina Research Authority and will serve as the central coordinating body for the state’s cybersecurity strategy.

The creation of the center is the culmination of a multi-year comprehensive study completed in 2024 that assessed the state’s specific cyber needs, current assets, and persistent challenges. The center will now lead and coordinate the implementation of South Carolina’s cybersecurity strategic plan.

Officials indicate the primary mission of the new center is to bolster the security of essential state government systems. This includes critical infrastructure supporting education, workforce development, economic growth, and emergency response capabilities. The center’s work is intended to benefit not only state and local government agencies but also businesses and citizens across South Carolina.

The center will be required to provide regular updates to the Governor’s office regarding its progress and the state of cybersecurity readiness.

The announcement is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. at the South Carolina Statehouse.
