Fatal Shooting Investigation Underway at Fort Mill Apartment Complex; Suspect in Custody

FORT MILL, S.C. – A Sunday night disturbance at a Fort Mill apartment complex turned deadly, leaving one person deceased and a suspect behind bars, Queen City News reports.

According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Lakeview Apartments around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday. While the initial call was regarding disorderly conduct, the situation was quickly upgraded to a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered a victim who had sustained three gunshot wounds. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies quickly made contact with the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Cobey Chambers, at the residence. Chambers was ordered to exit the home and was detained at the scene.

Authorities have stated that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

As of Monday, Chambers is being held at the Moss Justice Center. Current booking information indicates he has been charged with possession of 28g (1 oz) or less of marijuana or 10g or less of hash (1st offense).
