Don’t Forget to Fall Back: Daylight Saving Time Ends Soon

Prepare to set your clocks back an hour, as Daylight Saving Time (DST) will officially end across most of the United States on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2:00 a.m. local time.

The shift, often remembered by the saying “fall back,” means Americans will gain an hour of sleep and see the sun rise and set an hour earlier. This returns the country to Standard Time until next spring.

The time change officially occurs at 2:00 a.m. on November 2nd.

  • Gain an Hour: At 2:00 a.m., clocks should be manually set back to 1:00 a.m.
  • Automatic Devices: Most electronic devices, including smartphones, computers, and cable boxes, will automatically adjust.
  • Manual Devices: Traditional wall clocks, wristwatches, and older kitchen appliances must be changed manually. Public safety officials often remind residents to also use the time change as a convenient prompt to replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

The time shift will result in an earlier sunset, meaning the evening commute will occur under darker skies.

While the majority of the U.S. observes Daylight Saving Time, there are a few exceptions (Arizona, Hawaii and multiple U.S Territories) that remain on Standard Time year-round.

Despite repeated efforts in Congress to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the country—a measure that would end the biannual clock changes—no federal legislation has been passed to override the current system. For now, Americans will continue to “fall back” in the autumn and “spring forward” in the spring.
