Pets of the Week: Meet Zambra and Mango; and How You Can Help HSYC Save More Lives

FORT MILL, S.C. — The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is spotlighting two adoptable sweethearts who are more than ready for their forever homes: Zambra, a quiet, low-key cat working through heartbreak, and Mango, a bright, eager puppy who’s already wowing volunteers with his manners.

Cat of the Week: Zambra

Zambra arrived at HSYC after his owner unexpectedly passed away, and he’s been processing that loss ever since. Now seven weeks into his stay, staff and volunteers have learned he’s a gentle soul who takes comfort in calm routines.

  • About 5 years old; feline-friendly (he came in with another cat)
  • Low-key temperament; affectionate once he feels safe
  • Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested
Why he’s special: Zambra may look solemn in photos, but that’s grief—once he settles, he’ll be a steadfast, loving companion. With a patient transition, he’s the perfect fit for a quiet home.

Dog of the Week: Mango

Five months old and full of charm, Mango came to HSYC as an owner surrender through no fault of his own. He recently enjoyed a field trip to a volunteer’s home and earned rave reviews.

  • “Amazing” house guest: calm all afternoon, comfortable in new situations
  • Enjoys enrichment (yes to puzzle treats and frozen-yogurt bones!)
  • Practiced “mat work” and stayed put during dinner—what a star
  • Graduate of Zoom Room basic skills; playful and dog-social
  • Vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and tested
Why he’s special: Mango blends puppy pep with surprising self-control. With consistency, time, and love, he’ll bring loads of joy to an active, engaged family.
