Dangerous Heatwave Set to Scorch Tega Cay Next Week

By Mike Griffith, Carolina Weather Authority

TEGA CAY, SC – A dangerous stretch of heat is expected to grip the region starting Sunday and lasting through at least Thursday, with temperatures peaking on Tuesday. Forecast models show Tega Cay could reach a scorching 99 degrees—and possibly break into triple digits if the air stays dry enough.

The National Weather Service warns that conditions could be particularly dangerous, especially for outdoor workers, the elderly, and young children. High humidity could make it feel even hotter, pushing heat index values into hazardous territory.

Residents are urged to take precautions:

  • Limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours

  • Stay hydrated

  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles

  • Check on neighbors, especially those without air conditioning

Cooling centers may open if the heat intensifies. Officials are monitoring forecasts closely.
