York School Board Recognizes Outstanding Student and Staff Achievements

YORK, S.C. – At the latest York School District One Board of Trustees meeting, the board recognized several students and staff members for their outstanding achievements in athletics.

York Comprehensive High School Female Strength Team Wins State Championship

The York Comprehensive High School Female Strength Team made history on November 9 by winning the 4A Female State Championship at the 2024 South Carolina High School Female Strength State Meet, held at Blythewood High School.

Competing against nearly 300 athletes from across the state, the team excelled in Bench Press, Back Squat, and Standing Broad Jump, with each competitor receiving three attempts per event. The athletes demonstrated exceptional dedication, training four days a week since June and arriving at the weight room as early as 7:30 a.m. before school.

The championship team includes:

  • Gracin Carroll, Claire Dye, Kynleigh Liming, Hope Henderson, Maddi Ross, Trinity Stehley, Jessica Merwin, Teagan Cowart, Lauren Henry, Claire Gilfillan, Jordan Welsh, Lindsey Morrison, Narnia Miller, Dani Hagen, AC Lingerfelt, Lexi Clark, Caroline Clark, Matti Helms, Briley Comer, and Brooklyn Carter.

Cross Country Standouts Shine at 4A State Meet

Several York Comprehensive High School students competed at the 4A State Cross Country Meet, earning recognition for their hard work and perseverance.

The following athletes represented YCHS at the state level:

  • Amiracle Adams, Alexandria Welsh, Gabriella Albert, Mackayla Thomasson, Kimberly Galvin Fabian, Ava Shook, Joyelle Graves, Ellis Spencer, and Amerie Van Nostrand.

Football Players Earn All-Region & All-State Honors

YCHS football players earned high honors this season, with multiple athletes being selected for the Region 3 AAAA All-Region Football Team, recognizing them as top performers in their respective positions.

Honorees include:

  • Johnathan Tobias, Tayshon Freeman, Jeremiah Ellis, Triston Snodgrass, Jay McCoy, Jaden Sanders, Ryan Carter, and Ziggy Byers.

Additionally, Ryan Carter was named to the All-State AAAA Team, recognizing him as one of the best players in his position statewide.

Brochu & Boyd Receive National Recognition in Navy All-American Game

Freshman football standout Ryan Brochu was selected to play in the Navy All-American Freshman Game, which was held in early January. This prestigious game features the top 100 freshman players in the country and was nationally televised on NBC on January 11.

YCHS Head Coach Dean Boyd was also honored, serving as the Defensive Coordinator for the East squad in the All-American game.

Celebrating Excellence in YSD1

The YSD1 Board of Trustees commended all the students and staff for their outstanding achievements and commitment to excellence in athletics.

“These accomplishments highlight the hard work, dedication, and talent of our students and coaches,” the board said in a statement. “We are proud to celebrate their success and look forward to their continued achievements.”
