Stanley Recalls 2.6 Million Travel Mugs Due to Burn Risk: Full List of Affected Products

Stanley, the well-known maker of stainless steel drinkware, has issued a recall of approximately 2.6 million travel mugs sold in the United States due to a risk of burns caused by faulty lids. The recall includes the Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs sold nationwide from June 2016 through December 2024.

Reason for the Recall

The recall was initiated after reports that the threads on the mugs’ screw-on caps can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, potentially causing the lids to detach unexpectedly. This defect increases the risk of spilling hot liquids, which can result in burns.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that Stanley has received 91 incident reports worldwide, with 16 cases in the U.S. Among these, 38 incidents caused burns, 11 of which required medical attention.

Consumers are encouraged to stop using the affected mugs immediately to avoid further risk.

The recall applies to all 12, 16, and 20-ounce versions of the Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs. These mugs feature the Stanley logo on both the front and bottom of the product.
