FORT MILL, S.C. — The Humane Society of York County is highlighting two special animals this week who are hoping to find loving forever homes: Gosling, an affectionate young cat, and Gander, a longtime shelter resident ready for a fresh start.
Cat of the Week: Gosling
Gosling is just over five months old and came to the Humane Society of York County as a stray.
Shelter volunteers describe him as an adorable “love bug” who enjoys spending time in the Cat Lounge and is more than ready to make a connection with a family of his own.
Like all Humane Society of York County pets available for adoption, Gosling has been neutered, vaccinated, tested and microchipped.

Dog of the Week: Gander
Gander has been waiting a very long time for his forever family.
The playful dog arrived at the Humane Society of York County as an owner surrender more than 1,500 days ago through no fault of his own. Now estimated to be just over 5 years and 8 months old, Gander is hoping to finally trade shelter life for a home, a comfortable couch and a family to call his own.
Gander may need a little time to build trust with new people, but shelter volunteers say the patience is worth it.
He is an active and playful dog who enjoys walks, time in the yard and relaxing with people. He also enjoys the company of other dogs with a similar energy level.
Gander is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested.

Ways to Help the Humane Society of York County
The Humane Society of York County is also encouraging residents to support its mission by giving their time, talents or resources.
Volunteer opportunities are available at the rescue and at the Pawsibilities Thrift Shop. The organization is also looking for foster families willing to temporarily open their homes to animals in need.
Residents can also help by organizing supply or fundraising drives, sharing adoptable animals on social media or spreading the word about the Humane Society’s work.
Current shelter needs include laundry detergent and bleach. Donations of gently used or new merchandise are also accepted for the Pawsibilities Thrift Shop, along with holiday items for the organization’s seasonal Holiday Shop.
Supporters can shop at Pawsibilities, located at 2144 Carolina Place in Fort Mill, or purchase items through the Humane Society of York County’s eBay store.
More Than 500 Pets Adopted in 2026
The Humane Society of York County reports that 521 animals have already found forever homes in 2026, including 116 dogs and 405 cats.
