Every student in the Fort Mill School District can now eat breakfast at school at no cost, regardless of household income, the district announced Monday in a message to parents and staff.
The district said the change is paid for through a funding allocation approved by South Carolina legislators. Until now, Fort Mill families who did not qualify for free or reduced price meals under federal income guidelines paid for their children’s breakfast.
No Application Needed
The district said families do not need to fill out an application or make a payment. Students can pick up breakfast when they arrive at school.
A complete breakfast includes an entrée, fresh fruit and a choice of milk, according to the district. Menu items include chicken biscuits, French toast sticks, smoothies, parfaits and whole grain loaf slices. The district said its Student Nutrition team serves meals that meet U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition standards.
“Breakfast helps students focus, learn, and succeed,” the district said in its announcement.
Breakfast menus for each school are posted on the Fort Mill School District Student Nutrition website at fmsdstudentnutrition.com.
