Patriots Point, S.C. – Winthrop men’s soccer suffered a 4-1 loss at the College of Charleston, Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Game Recap

• Cougars grabbed the lead just before the half
• Henrik Boer sent a long ball behind the Eagle defense and Matt Lenert beat everyone to the ball and placed a shot over the head of Euan Brindley and into the net
• Winthrop had a couple of shots on frame in the first 45 minutes but were right at the keeper
• Cougars doubled their lead in the 54^th minute as Paul Killeen dribbled into the box and played a pass in front of goal
• Bemanzi Alibaruho collected the pass with his back to goal, spun and fired a low shot into the corner
• The lead was extended to 3-0 after Lenert found his second goal of the match in the 72^nd minute
• Eagles finally broke through in the 72^nd minute, less than a minute following the Cougars third goal
• Juma Baden stepped up and converted a penalty to get Winthrop on the board

• It was a physical game as the teams combined for 35 fouls in the match
• Baden scored his fourth goal of the season and has a goal in four straight matches
• Cougars had an 11-10 edge in total shots and 6-5 in shots on goal
