Lancaster County to Break Ground on $36.9 Million Regional Athletic Complex

Lancaster County will break ground next week on a new Regional Athletic Complex designed to expand recreational opportunities and attract sports tournaments to the area.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for noon Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 3434 Roselyn Avenue in Lancaster, within the Roselyn neighborhood development off Charlotte Highway.

The $36.9 million complex will feature three turf baseball fields and three grass soccer fields. The baseball fields will include batting cages and bullpens, while both baseball and soccer facilities will have concession stands.

The University of South Carolina Lancaster baseball team is expected to use one of the fields for home games once the complex is completed. The soccer fields will also be designed to accommodate collegiate competition.

The facility will include 750 parking spaces, a community room, maintenance building and a splash pad for children. The splash pad area is also planned as a multi-use space that can accommodate other programming during colder months.

County officials expect the centrally located complex to attract regional sports tournaments, potentially generating additional economic activity through sports tourism.

Construction is expected to take up to 14 months, with the facility scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2027.
