A Great Falls man died at the scene of a motorcycle crash in Catawba on the afternoon of Aug. 11 after a vehicle turning left failed to yield and struck him, the York County Coroner’s Office said.
Nelson Riley Jr., 66, was riding a motorcycle at South Anderson Road and Ashland Oaks Drive when the collision occurred, according to the coroner’s office. Riley was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner’s office responded to the intersection that afternoon to investigate the fatality and later identified Riley through its investigation.
Investigation continues
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the York County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the crash. The coroner’s office said pathology and toxicology results are pending.
The coroner’s office did not release the name of the driver of the second vehicle or say whether charges have been filed. The Highway Patrol typically announces charges in fatal collisions once its reconstruction work is complete.
