For Tega Cay homeowner Scott Slawter, remodeling isn’t just about updating a home—it’s about creating a space that homeowners will enjoy for years to come.
As the owner of Exceptional Exteriors and Renovations, LLC, Slawter has spent decades honing his skills and building a reputation for quality workmanship. A Charlotte native, he moved to Tega Cay about five years ago and says he immediately appreciated the area’s slower pace and close-knit community.
“Charlotte’s great, but everybody seems to be in a hurry,” Slawter said. “I like where I’m at better now than I did in Charlotte.”
His move to South Carolina also marked the beginning of a new chapter professionally. After operating Scott’s Home Repairs for nearly two decades and working as an engineer maintaining Bank of America Plaza in Charlotte, Slawter decided it was time to return to what he enjoyed most.
“I was sitting around one day and said, ‘I’m going to start a business here in South Carolina,'” he said.
Today, Slawter is the sole owner and operator of Exceptional Exteriors and Renovations, personally completing nearly every phase of a project himself. From demolition and framing to flooring, plumbing modifications and finish work, he handles almost everything in-house, subcontracting only specialized work such as tile installation and frameless glass.
“I like to do everything myself so I know it’s right,” he said. “If anything ever goes wrong, all you have to do is pick up the phone and call me, and I’ll come out that same day or the next day at the latest.”
Bathroom renovations are among his favorite projects, especially transforming outdated spaces into modern retreats. He also enjoys complete kitchen remodels, helping homeowners increase both the beauty and value of their homes.
Among his favorite completed projects are a luxury bathroom renovation in Huntersville featuring heated floors, a custom shower and an 84-inch freestanding soaking tub, as well as a large-scale renovation in Ballantyne Country Club.
Slawter says his passion for construction began years ago while working alongside an experienced handyman. A self-described self-taught craftsman, he also credits a lifelong curiosity for learning new skills.
“I grew up taking things apart and putting them back together,” he said.
Although based in Tega Cay, Slawter serves homeowners throughout Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Lancaster, Charlotte and surrounding communities. He’s happy to travel anywhere within about a 45-minute to one-hour drive, allowing him to serve customers across much of the greater Charlotte region.
“I try to do the very best that I can and give people something they absolutely love,” Slawter said. “I don’t cut any corners. If something’s not square or level, I fix the problem before I move on.”
That commitment to quality has earned him loyal customers, many of whom have become friends over the years.
“They tell me I really take the time to make sure the job is done right,” Slawter said.
With availability in his schedule, Slawter is currently accepting projects ranging from small home repairs to complete kitchen and bathroom renovations throughout the Fort Mill, Tega Cay and greater Charlotte area.
