YCSO Mounted Patrol Earns Multiple Awards at NAPEC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Unit and volunteer search and rescue team earned multiple honors during the 2026 National Association of Police Equestrian Council (NAPEC) competition and memorial events held in Washington, D.C.

Detective Tom Kinnee received several top awards during the national competition. Riding Amadeus, Kinnee placed second in Expert Equitation, fifth in the Expert Obstacle competition, and third overall in the combined Expert Equitation and Obstacle category. He also won first place in the Western Class, earning the John Copeland Traveling Trophy. Kinnee later earned Reserve Champion honors in the elite ride-off competition featuring the top mounted riders from law enforcement and auxiliary divisions nationwide. Kinnee, along with teammates Diamond B and Handsome, also placed second in the Team Obstacle Competition.

Members of the York County volunteer Mounted Search and Rescue (MSAR) team also earned national recognition during the event. Rider Doc Holliday placed third in Auxiliary Expert Equitation, fifth in Auxiliary Obstacle, and third overall in the Auxiliary Expert Combined category. Rider Jackman earned fifth in Auxiliary Expert Equitation, sixth in Auxiliary Obstacle, and fourth overall in the combined category, while also helping secure third place in a team obstacle competition held during training events in Manassas, Virginia. Loki, competing in a first NAPEC event, placed fifth in Auxiliary Novice Equitation, fourth in Auxiliary Obstacle, and second overall in the Auxiliary Novice Combined category. Diamond B earned fifth in Law Enforcement Expert Equitation, third in Law Enforcement Obstacle, and third overall in the combined category.

In addition to the competition, team members participated in memorial events honoring fallen law enforcement officers and supporting surviving family members during National Police Week activities in Washington, D.C. The week included training, ceremonial rides, and national equestrian competitions featuring mounted law enforcement units from across the country.
