Boating Safety Course Offered in Tega Cay This Spring and Summer

America’s Boating Club of the Catawba will host America’s Boating Course at the Tega Cay Police Department on two dates this year: May 16 and August 22.

The course runs from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is held at 7705 Tega Cay Drive. Registration includes the in-person course, a course book, and lunch.

The course is required by law for younger boaters before operating a motorized vessel. In South Carolina, anyone under 19 years old must complete the course before operating a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or more, including personal watercraft such as jet skis. In North Carolina, that requirement applies to anyone under 38 years old.

America’s Boating Club of the Catawba, also known as the US Power Squadron, has taught the course for 60 years. Participants who pass will receive an official boating certificate valid in North or South Carolina.

The cost is $40 for the first student in a family and $10 for each additional student from the same family or group sharing course materials.
