Humane Society of York County Highlights Two Pets in Need of Forever Homes

The Humane Society of York County is shining a spotlight on two animals looking for their forever families this week, a charming tabby cat with striking green eyes and a young dog still healing from a difficult start to life.

Suga the Tabby

Suga arrived at the HSYC from Animal Control about five weeks ago and has been settling in well. The roughly four-year-old tabby is turning heads with her distinctive mint green eyes, accented by what staff describe as natural white eye liners that seem to demand attention.

Staff say Suga has many sides to her personality, all of them sweet, and that given enough time she will make the perfect addition to the right person, couple, or family. Like all animals at the shelter, Suga is spayed, vaccinated, tested, and microchipped. She can be found in the shelter’s cat room.

Dax the Dog

Dax came to the HSYC as an owner surrender under circumstances staff describe as traumatic. Now estimated to be just over a year old, the young dog has spent several weeks at the shelter and is slowly opening up to human interaction. Staff have placed him in an office setting to give him more frequent contact and help him feel more comfortable.

Progress has been real. Staff say that when someone enters the office, Dax now runs to his bed and rolls over for a belly rub, a sign that despite whatever he experienced, he is ready to give people another chance. He currently shows a preference for women. Dax is neutered, vaccinated, tested, and microchipped.

Staff caution that Dax still has healing ahead of him and ask that potential adopters be patient, adding that those who are will not regret it.

Anyone interested in meeting Suga or Dax can call the Humane Society of York County at 803-802-0902 or visit humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org. The shelter is located at 8177 Regent Parkway in Fort Mill. So far in 2026, the organization has placed 207 animals into forever homes.
