FORT MILL, SC – Republican State Representative David Martin announced today that he will seek re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives to continue serving the residents of District 26 and the Fort Mill community he has called home his entire life.
“Fort Mill has been home my entire life,” Martin said. “I graduated from school here, I’ve raised my family here, and I started my business here. I have always believed in giving back to this community long before I held public office, and I will continue to do so long after politics. Fort Mill is home, and I’m proud to represent the people who live here.”
Martin said he is proud of the progress made during his first term and believes there is still important work ahead to strengthen the community, protect families, and support local schools and businesses.
“When I first ran for office, I promised to support our schools, back our law enforcement officers, reduce taxes, improve our roadways, and fight for our community,” Martin said. “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made on each of these items during my first term and look forward to continuing that work.”
Martin has been a strong supporter of Fort Mill schools and teachers while consistently backing law enforcement and policies that strengthen public safety. He has also been a leading voice in the fight against the Silfab facility locating in the community, working with local and state officials to protect the safety of Fort Mill residents and schools.
During his first term, Martin has focused on legislation addressing issues that directly impact the community. His bill to crack down on illegal street takeovers has already passed the House Criminal Law Subcommittee and aims to improve roadway safety. He has also introduced legislation to address unlawful zoning decisions, including proposals to create buffer zones around schools so heavy industrial facilities cannot be located nearby. The legislation is aimed at preventing situations like the current Silfab issue in Fort Mill and ensuring that schools and residential communities are protected moving forward. Additional legislation he has filed focuses on protecting children from the dangers of social media and improving safety for school crossing guards and students traveling to and from school.
Martin has also worked closely with the South Carolina Department of Transportation while on the SCDOT Modernization Committee, and other local officials to improve roadway safety and traffic flow in Fort Mill. His efforts have helped secure additional traffic lights, rumble strips, signage, tree clearings, and turn signals in key areas around town, and he worked with the Town of Fort Mill and local law enforcement to ensure officers were stationed at school crossings when the school year began to protect students.
In Columbia, Martin has supported efforts to reduce taxes for South Carolinians, including legislation to lower the state income tax and increase the homestead exemption to help reduce property taxes for homeowners. He has also supported judicial reform and liquor liability reform to help protect South Carolina’s small businesses and to create transparency in government.
The Republican primary election for South Carolina House District 26 will be held June 9th.
