Public Input Sought for Major Lake Wylie Road Improvements

York County officials are hosting a community meeting this week to provide updates on two significant infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving safety in the Lake Wylie area.

The drop-in meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oakridge Middle School in Clover. The event is centered on projects funded by the Pennies for Progress sales tax program, which residents approved to address the county’s growing transportation needs.

Focus on Highway 49 Corridors

The session will specifically highlight planned improvements along the Highway 49 corridor. Engineers will be present to share detailed maps and provide technical insights into two primary focus areas:

  • Blucher Circle: Proposed modifications to improve traffic flow and visibility at this junction.

  • Bonum Road/Montgomery Road Intersection: Strategic upgrades designed to manage the increasing volume of vehicles at this busy Lake Wylie crossroads.

Interactive “Drop-In” Format

Unlike a traditional public hearing, the “drop-in” format allows residents to arrive at any time during the two-hour window. This setup encourages one-on-one dialogue between citizens and county engineers, ensuring that specific neighborhood concerns are addressed.

The projects are part of a broader initiative to synchronize infrastructure with the rapid residential and commercial growth seen in the northern part of York County. Officials emphasize that community feedback gathered during these sessions plays a vital role in the final design and implementation phases of the roadwork.
