Indian Land Business Owner Tripp McCoy Launches Primary Challenge for S.C. House District 44

INDIAN LAND, S.C. — Tripp McCoy, a local small business owner and Indian Land resident, officially announced today that he is running as a Republican for the South Carolina State House District 44 seat.

McCoy, 27, is launching a primary bid that will challenge incumbent Republican Representative Mike Neese. Neese, currently in his second term, was first elected in 2022 and successfully defended the seat against Democrat Katie Crosby in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.

Previous Political Experience

This is not McCoy’s first bid for state office. In 2024, he ran for the South Carolina Senate District 17 seat. He was defeated in the Republican primary by Everett Stubbs, who went on to win the general election.

McCoy alluded to his previous experience in his announcement, stating, “I’m looking forward to getting back out door knocking and meeting as many people as I can.”

Background and Platform

McCoy is the owner of Wolf’s Haircuts in Indian Land. He recently expanded the business by opening a second location, a move he says highlights his commitment to creating local jobs and investing in the community.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, McCoy noted that he was the first person in his family to transition directly from high school to college. He credits this opportunity, combined with a strong work ethic, for his views on economic opportunity.

“As a small business owner, I understand firsthand what it takes to meet payroll, manage budgets, and make tough decisions,” McCoy said.

His platform focuses on fiscal responsibility and ensuring a return on investment for District 44 residents.

“Indian Land families deserve to see their tax dollars brought back home, rather than facing higher taxes with little to show for it,” McCoy said, adding that he intends to bring “practical, common-sense business principles” to the State House.

Personal Life

McCoy and his wife, Andrea Morales, have been married for six years. The couple, who are high school sweethearts, reside in Indian Land with their two-year-old son, Dean.
